Cong Table Lamp

Introducing The Met x Eichholtz Cong Table Lamp, inspired by a prehistoric East Asian object. This eye-catching table lamp translates an ancient symbol of power and status into a commanding presence for the modern interior. Crafted from dark gray marble, its substantial square-sectioned base unifies geometric form and raw material, while the stepped, ridged detailing is drawn directly from the original. Heavy, tactile, and quietly authoritative, it is the kind of lamp that anchors a room.

INSPIRATION – The jade cong that inspired this table lamp was a ritual object created in China around 2400 BCE, during the Neolithic period. Composed of a cylindrical tube encased within a gently tapering prism, its corners marked by simple masks with circular eyes and bar-shaped mouths, the artwork is visually striking yet enigmatic in meaning and function. It is thought to have signified wealth and elevated social status within Liangzhu society.
